Problem Note 48884: java.lang.NullPointerException errors occur with the Interactive Grouping and Interactive Binning nodes

DetailsAboutRate It

When you perform interactive training in the SAS® Enterprise Miner™ Interactive Grouping or Interactive Binning node, java.lang.NullPointerException errors might occur.

java.lang.NullPointerException @
com.sas.analytics.eminer.visuals.binning.BinningResultsModel.updateTableMap
(BinningResultsModel.java:111)

java.lang.NullPointerException @
com.sas.analytics.eminer.visuals.binning.IgnResultsModel.updateTableMap
(IgnResultsModel.java:114)

ERROR: A character operand was found in the %EVAL function or %IF condition
where a numeric operand is required. The condition was: %substr(&var, 1, 3) eq
SV_
ERROR: The macro TRAIN will stop executing.

The errors occur when the target variable contains missing values in the underlying data set.

To work around the problem, delete observations that have a missing value for the target variable (those observations are not used anyway). Note that using a SAS Code node to create an &EM_EXPORT_TRAIN source by setting an &EM_IMPORT_DATA source does not work around the problem. You must delete the observations from the underlying SAS data set, or create a new SAS data set that is a subset. Then create a new data source that points to the data set.
